How To Be Notified of Pingbacks

28 January 2008 No Comment

When you are marketing a product or service, it’s always important to get as many people talking about it as possible. But how do you know if or when people are talking about your product or service?

Another service of Google, Google Alerts, notifies people by email when a specified word or phrase is used on a web site.

So, if I am marketing webolia.com, I can have Google Alerts notify me every time “webolia” appears somewhere on the Web.

This is useful if you want to know when your site is mentioned thoughout the Web, where links to it are added, or if somebody writes about it in a blog.

You can select from any category, key-term you want then you can set by the type which is – News, Blogs, Web, Video, Groups and comprehensive. You can also filter it by as-it-happens, daily or weekly.

The service can also be used to analyze your competition. Just plug your competition’s word or phrase into Google Alerts, and emails can be sent to you about their company too.

All that happens now is, you will receive email results based on the market you’re interested in. This will save you time looking for information on your market.

As Google puts it, some handy uses of Google Alerts include:

  • monitoring a developing news story
  • keeping current on a competitor or industry
  • getting the latest on a celebrity or event
  • keeping tabs on your favorite sports teams
